Herman Cain, The Pay Per Click Marketer

All is fair in politics and marketing, right? Well, it would seem that way since everyone seems to do what they want when it comes to attacking each other and marketing their political campaigns. As much negative publicity as Herman Cain is getting for his extra-marital affairs, he’s not getting credit for the talented pay per click marketer that he is! (most likely his campaign team)

In all seriousness, a report was posted yesterday from Politico on Herman Cain appearing at the top of the search results for “Ginger White“, for any searches performed by users in Iowa. Ginger White is of course the woman who is claiming to have had a 13 year affair with Herman Cain.

Perform a search for “Ginger White” and instead of being distracted and turned against Herman Cain, why not click the first sponsored link and learn the “Truth About Herman Cain“. It’s smart, funny, creative… and no longer live. Once Politico published the article, the sponsored listing was removed from Google.

As noted by Politico and the New York Times, this isn’t the first time Herman Cain has used internet advertising to his advantage. During the first set of allegation, the Friends of Herman Cain Inc. group ran sponsored tweets on Twitter.

Not long after Politico broke the story of the harassment accusations on Oct. 30, Mr. Cain’s campaign took to Twitter to help rebut them. In addition to tweeting to their 157,000 followers from their own account, @thehermancain, the Friends of Herman Cain Inc. bought a message on Twitter using one of the political advertising products made available to campaigns in September called “promoted tweets.”

So whenever people searched for Herman Cain on Twitter, they got a message from his campaign with a small logo and disclaimer that read: “From Team HC: Sadly, we’ve seen this movie played out before. Mr. Cain and all Americans deserve better http://bit.ly/uU0j7a”.

It’s safe to say that Obama can thank the use of social media and the power of the internet for a large portion of his votes and following in the last election. The future of political campaigns, fund raising and advertising is greatly changing through the use of internet advertising and social media.
